: I must say first that I look forward to starting up my computer every morning to read new posts. I'm a national voice over announcer and producer of Concert commercials. On the side I enjoy voice imaging for radio and televison. I have been marketing myself with direct mail and including a cassette demo, which is kind of expensive. How usefull are web sites for marketing voice talents? What's the price on a web site? Are people looking for voice talents and listening to demo's on the net? Any iformation would be greatly appriacated.
I am getting lots of hits on my web site these days and people are definately downloading sound files.
One interesting feature that used to be on my weekly statistics was how people were getting to my web site. It gave the URL and, if it was a search engine, what words were being typed in.
Getting an easy to remember domain name is your first step. That costs about $100. Or you can use AOL or other service that gives you some web site space included in your monthly fee. There are limitations to those services, however. Soome have limited storage space and sound and video files begin to eat up space.
If you get a domain, then you will need to pay for hosting it at an ISP. Mine costs about $300 per year.
Then you need to make a web site -- which you can do yourself. Keep it simple and clean. Make sure you understand META tags, so that you can get noticed.
Then you need to get yourself listed in as many places as possible -- search engines, directories, industry specific directories, etc. Network, join mailing lists, put a link to your homepage in your signature block. Promote, promote, promote.
