As you can see I'm working on
getting the new discussion board up and running. It's already working
great in tests. Here's an exerpt of some of the new operational and
features notes I'm making up for you. I believe it should be up by
Wednesday. Lots of new stuff I think you'll enjoy it :-)

Some Discussion Board Operation
Notes:
- In the top Frame(Window) you can view
the index of messages.
- In this lower Frame(Window) you view the
actual messages.
- By Default: only the last MONTH of
messages show up in the index. They will show in THREAD-REVERSED
view.
- Preferences (optional): By selecting SET
PREFERENCES you can choose a TIME PERIOD of Posts to view:
- The Last 12-Hours of
posts
- The Last Day of Posts
- The Last 2 Days of Posts
- The Last Week Of Posts
- The Last 2 Weeks of Posts
- The Last Month of Posts
- And Eons (All the Posts)
- Preferences (optional): By selecting SET
PREFERENCES you can also choose The THREAD VIEW:
- Cronological,
Cronological-reversed, Thread, Thread-reversed, and more.
Experiment to see which you like best
- Right Now Cookies are not active. Which
means that the preferences that you set are only for your current
session online.
Some More Cool New Features
(lots of improvements over our old voiceover discussion
board:-):
- EMAIL NOTIFICATION: By default
every-time you make a post you will receive an email whenever
someone responds. To turn off the response just un-check the box
for Email-Response above POST MESSAGE. Note however, that the
response you get will only list the Subject line and poster of the
response. You'll need to come back to the discussion board to read
the actual response. But, hey:-) now you'll now when you're
messages are responded to ... I think that's Great!
- (UN)SUBSCRIBE: Now anyone can choose to
subscribe/unsubscribe to the discussion board as a mailing list.
Just like Email Notification, you will only receive the
Subject-Headings of new messages posts. You will receive an email
message everytime a new posting is put up on the discussion board
(what a time saver :-). You will need to come back to the
discussion board to view them. But, hey:-) now you'll be able to
know whenever someone posts some new POOP (right Jack &
William, you guys provided some great discussion on Financial
Core, we all learned alot ... thanks ;-). It will be very easy to
unsubscribe if you're getting too many messages.
- SEARCH: You will now be able to make a
search of ALL of the text of ALL of the messages. You'll have
three variables here 1) Search Time-Period (12hours, week, month,
etc.) as described above, 2) Search Words/Text and whether you
want all or any of the search words to be returned, and 3) To find
messages by a specific poster
I think this will be invaluable to all of us as the board is
growing very HUGE. It contains lots of information for people of
all levels. So those of you that WANT TO LEARN HOW TO GET IN THE
BUSINESS OF VOICEOVER
should be spending a couple of
hours searching all the old messages for info and advice be fore
you post a "HOW DO I GET STARTED"
message. Many wonderful people
have given that answer more than once :-)
- ARCHIVED MESSAGES: The old discussion
board and it's messages will remain ... the posting functions will
just be disabled. This is because many search engines on the
internet have a lot of these messages indexed and it's useful for
people to find them. But, as you've already noticed above all the
old messages will remain intact and you will still be able to post
responses to them. As you've noticed you now have the ability to
control how the index comes up for you so you don't get a whole
years-worth of messges loading up. I think this is great becasue
many of us will still think of great things to say and add to old
discussion :-)
