HI Sue. I do private instruction & demo tapes here in Vancouver. I get this question all the time. I'm not sure about the Philly area, but here, we have a bit of a "good ol' boys" club. That being, a certain group of (talented) people get the lion's share of work. That's not to say that you shouldn't try the big studios and go to the cattle calls, but I tell people to expand their thinking a bit.

For example, there are probably hundreds of "ma & pa" video studios in your area. They may do a few industrial or corporate videos, and may not have your demo ! We've had great success with CD-ROM developers and video games, etc. As well, we're working on a "talking book" project. There are plenty of other places that can utilize pro voicing. Many of them are not aware of how to go about getting voicing done, or even how much it costs, etc. If you are one of the first through the door, you can help them and they in turn, help you !

But here's the fun part. Why just your area ? The fact that you are on computer right now, means that you can contact thousands of studios, multi-media developers, smaller tv / radio stations, etc. We recently did a voiceover for the Disney Corp. Our voice did the script in our studios here in Canada, while somebody in California listened over the phone. Minutes later, we sent them their v/o via FTP (computer file, upload / download). They had it in perfect quality, within minutes. About a week later, I'm watching local TV, and on comes this fully poduced tv spot, with our voice. The point being, technology gives you the opportunity to step out and get to many, many other places that may be able to use you.

Smaller towns would probably love to have a "Philly voice" doing their splitters, etc.

Good Luck.
