: I've got a great demo tape, a flexible schedule, lots of determination, some talent & experience...and an agent who sent me on 3 cattle calls & then said there's "nothing more I can do" to market myself as VO talent. I know there's got to be a better way. I'm in the Philly area so I know there's work available and I'm sure I can handle it. Other than sitting back and waiting for my agent to land me something, how should I go about getting my demo heard?
Do some digging to get the names and addresses of the Production Managers, Managing Producers and Creative Directors at Production Companies and Advertising Agencies. Send them your tape. Follow up with periodic post cards. Join local organizations where you might get to rub shoulders with some of these people. That sort of thing. Try to not be a pest, but you do have to get your demo to them.
What is with it with these agents? I heard from one VO guy recently whose agent told him that she wasn't interested in going after the non-broadcast stuff -- not enough money in it -- she was going to go after the commercials.
